Depotting Wet N' Wild ColorIcon Palettes

If you read my DIY Makeup Palette post (click here if you havent!), you saw that i had depotted all of my wet n' wild coloricon palettes. This is because I felt that this way, i would be able to get more use out of all of them. I normally just reach for Vanity and end up neglecting the rest of the palettes because it takes more effort to open up a few palettes and constantly switch back and forth. With all of them in one palette, i can mix and match different colors :)

So i had a few emails asking how i depotted my wet n wild palettes. (Good thing i snapped a few pictures when i was depotting! :P) At first, i actually had some trouble depotting these using the normal method i usually do, which was to place the pot on top of my hair straightener to loosen and melt the glue, and then use something sharp to lift the pan.

However, since these palettes are in a heavy plastic case, i find that the straightener doesnt heat it up enough to melt the glue. As a result, i ended up nicking a few of the shadows :( ... so i had to fix them with some rubbing alcohol.

------------------------------------

Anyways, to depot your wet n' wild eyeshadows, here is what i did:

Things you need:
- a candle & a lighter
- a pen or similar item with a rounded point (i used my ds stylus)
- your palettes that you want to depot

 Instructions:
Step One: light the candle :)

(ignore the top part of the picture lol i forgot to take pics of the whole process)

Note: Please be careful when using fire to depot your eyeshadows. Make sure you clear the table prior to lighting the candle so that there is nothing around that could catch on fire. As well, please make sure you remove any dangly jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets that could touch the fire as you are working on the palettes. Just in case, try to wear short sleeve or tighter fitting long sleeves :)

Step Two: remove the backing on the wet n' wild palettes.

There are several layers of sticker on the back of these palettes explaining ingredients as well as how to use the palettes. you can keep these for reference if you want, otherwise.. just rip it off :) By doing so, you can keep the burning plastic smell to a minimum :)

Step Three: place palette over the candle

Be careful when you do this step! I recommend you hold the palette by the clear top with one hand.. and steady the palette by holding just the end with your other hand. Try to melt the glue on the eyeshadows one at a time.. so if you want to take the bottom corner out first, just hold that area over the candle. As well, I recommend you do this in intervals.

So hold it over the candle for 5-8 seconds, remove and use the ds stylus (or pen) to slightly push on the bottom to see if the plastic is softened. If it is, the plastic will easily be pushed up and the pan will start to lift off. If the plastic still feels rather hard, hold it over the candle for a few more seconds. Try not to hold it over the fire for too long, you dont need to completely melt the plastic, just need to soften it.

Step Four: push the pan out

Use your pen/stylus/round tipped object to slowly push on the bottom of the plastic until the pan starts to lift. once it does, use the pointed tip to move it out of the socket. Try to let it cool for a few seconds before touching it with your hand as the pan will be very hot! You could also use tweezers to help you if needed. Once it cools down a bit, lift it off the palette and place on your table to further cool it.

Step Five: continue the above steps until all the pans are out!

and thats it! :) i hope you enjoyed this quick short tutorial on depotting the wet n wild palettes. i've heard that wet n wild are coming out soon with some 8-pan palettes! i seriously CANNOT wait :D i have been super impressed by the quality of their shadows and know they will not disappoint :) for more information on their new releases, G. from Nouveau Cheap is now wet n wild's official ambassador! so please check her site for more info!
