Possible Dupe for MAC "All That Glitters"?

Heres another possible MAC dupe!

As you might have seen, i recently got my hands on some gorgeous glamour doll eyes shadows to review :) (click here for full review and swatches!)

Well, one of the shadows i picked was "He Loves Me Not" and when swatching it, i found it to be very very similar to MAC's all that glitters! Lets find out for sure :)

and when blended out..

GDE He Loves Me Not & MAC All That Glitters

Overall, i definitely think that GDE's "He Loves Me Not" is a total dupe for MAC's "All That Glitters"

Both are buttery soft, very pigmented and blend amazingly well. The main difference between the two is that He Loves Me Not is a finely milled eyeshadow and is in powder form, whereas All That Glitters is in pan form. PLUS, there is of course, a price difference: GDE goes for $6 for 2-2.5g whereas MAC goes for $17 for 1.5g. (However, Glamour Doll Eyes is only available online so there may also be a shipping cost depending on where you live)

Overall, i love both shades! If you are tight on cash and dont mind using powder shadows, i would totally recommend Glamour Doll Eyes! However, if you're always on the go, in a hurry or just like the pan form better, the MAC one will be more travel friendly.

Since i have both....
For daily everyday basis, I will probably stick to using All That Glitters because its more convient and mess-free. However, for days/nights out, i think i'd switch to using He Loves Me Not because i find it more buildable since you can easily pack on as much color as you want :)

What do you think? Let me know! :D

Please Note: The above Glamour Doll Eyes shadow (He Loves Me Not) was provided to Pinkbox Makeup for review purposes only. No other monetary compensation was received. As always, all opinions and reviews are my own honest opinion and based solely on my personal experience.

MAC Satin Taupe - SedonaLace 88 Palette DUPES!

Do you have an 88 palette?

As you know, i recently got my hands on MAC Satin Taupe and it is such a gorgeous shade! (click here for full review) Anyways, ever since i got it, ive been using it alot and got asked if there was a drugstore dupe for it.. good news, there are TONS! :D

So you've already seen the ELF and WNW dupes from last time's post (click here if you havent!) but i got some requests to see if there were any dupes from my 88 palettes! and trust me, there are! So today, i will be comparing those colors from my sedona lace 88 ultra shimmer palette (click here for full review and swatches part 1, 2, and 3)

SedonaLace Palette Numbered for Comparison

Alright, heres the moment of truth! :D

in artificial lighting

Looking closely at each comparison:
#1 - slightly lighter in shade compared to satin taupe, has slightly more beige undertones
#2 - is also slightly lighter than satin taupe with beige undertones
#3 - very close in comparison - possible dupe
#4 - too dark compared to satin taupe, also has more silver & purple undertones
#5 - too warm and light compared to satin taupe, has goldish undertones

Looking closely at each comparison:
#6 - too much silver undertone, as well, it is more cool toned
#7 - very close in shade - possible dupe
#8 - more of a warm undertone compared to satin taupe
#9 - again, more warm toned, as well as strong purple undertone

from the above swatches, i found that #3 and 7 were the closest in shades, so i re-swatched them together with Satin Taupe

#3, 7

(sorry, my lighting is quite yellow causing the shades to look a bit off, the true colors are much closer to reality in the flash pictures above)

Differences if any?

Although both shadows are highly pigmented, once again, I do think Satin Taupe has a slightly higher quality just due to the fact that the SedonaLace shadows can at times be TOO soft and buttery and therefore slightly crumbly. I find that this happens often among drugstore eyeshadows, but nonetheless, if you work carefully and try not to get too much product on your brush, you wont have any problems.

Since the SedonaLace shadows i am using are from their ultra shimmer palette, i actually find that these are quite comparable in shine and shimmer. They all have a very nice sheen so overall, i do think that the shades are very good dupes for MAC Satin Taupe.

---------------------------------

Overall Verdict:

Out of the SedonaLace palette, I think #7 is the closest both in shade and undertones. #3 is also quite close but is ever so slightly lighter and warmer than satin taupe. Overall, these would both make great dupes as the differences are subtle once applied.

Also, if you dont have an 88 palette, you can click here to check out two other drugstore dupes for MAC Satin Taupe! enjoy!

MAC Satin Taupe $1 DUPE!

Dont you LOVE drugstore dupes of high end products?

Well, today i have another one for you :) This one is for my newest addition to my collection, MAC Satin Taupe :) This color is sooo gorgeous, and you can see my full review on it here. But if you're hoping to stay away from the expensive price tag, heres two other products you could pick up :)

MAC Satin Taupe

ELF Moondust ($1 Custom Eyes, online at
e.l.f. Essentials custom eyes
)

Wet N'  Wild Nutty ($4 at drugstores)

photo comparison of all three
(as always, click to enlarge)

and of course, swatches!

Verdict?
as you can see, although wnw's nutty is somewhat lighter in shade compared to satin taupe, but elf's moondust is actually quite similar to satin taupe!! I think we have a dupe!! :D

---------------------------------------

but just to make sure, here are the same three shades, blended out :)

Verdict?
as you can see, when blended out, both wnw's nutty and elf's moondust are almost identical to satin taupe! this is because satin taupe has a warm brown undertone, so when blended out, it loses some of its darker purpleish shade and therefore, is much more similar to wnw's nutty than previously.

What about the quality differences?
quality wise, I actually do think all three are similar in pigmentation, all are very very good! all three also have a very buttery texture although I have to say that both wnw and elf eyeshadows are almost TOO buttery, causing the eyeshadow to crumble easily. this is possibly one of the differences between drugstore and high-end.

in addition, I do think that satin taupe (when not blended) has more dimension and shine to it, looking more purple, taupe or brown in certain angles. elf's moondust is somewhat comparable as it does have a similar shade and sheen but it is not as multi dimensional as satin taupe.

overall
I would say that these two eyeshadows are definitely very good dupes! especially since they cost $1 and $3-4 (elf moondust and wnw nutty respectively) compared to $17.50 or $13 cad for just the refill! so if you're tight on money, I would highly recommend these drugstore dupes!

MAC MSF Drugstore Dupe?

Okay girls, i have to admit... other than a liquid foundation, a studio fix powder & a 190 brush (all bought for me by my wonderful mom years ago).. im a MAC Virgin. there i said it.. anyone else care to join me?

I have only started REALLY getting into all this makeup obsession recently, but i think i'm catching on fairly quickly! Unfortuanetly.. i've never really stepped on the MAC bandwagon. Call me loser, noob, weirdo or whatever... i just never liked how i had to stay caught up in all the newest collections just so that i can purchase the products i want. If im just a bit slower than the rest of the makeup addicts, i miss out on my product which will then become LE and who knows when and how much i need to spend to buy it again.

Of course, being now in my fourth year at university (with a STUPID STUPID STUPID increase in tuition costs next year), and with only a part time job.. im pretty tight on money :( So.. ive learned to make my way through with drugstore products, sometimes allowing myself to splurge just a little bit more!

Anyways.. im sure you guys already caught news of MAC's newest collection: In the Groove? Well... they are re-promoting some of their gorgeous MSF.. one look at Stereo Rose and Petticoat and i was DONE. I wanted to go out and buy it right away!! I was so sad later to find out that these would cost me $33.50 CAD EACH... for a blush and a highlighter. total coming to $67 not including tax... are you kidding me? luckily, i was at superstore one day grabbing some snacks and came upon this: Revlon's Colorstay Mineral Finishing Powder in Brighten

Swatched :)

Compared to MAC MSF in Petticoat...
(picture taken from flickr.com)

Seriously, its pretty close right? (although this swatches with less pink tones) I was super happy to find this! The price however, is a bit steep for a drugstore brand (this costing me $13.99 CAD for 0.31 Oz / 8.79 g), but compared to the MAC price of $33.50? Im happy :) Also, i know many of you mightve heard of NYC's Chrome Face Glows... they were supposed to a MAC MSF dupe as well but i didnt know until now and of course, they're all gone :(...

Anyways, i am currently using it as a highlight color on the upper areas of my cheek. This product applies fairly subtle though, so what i do is take my kabuki brush (ecotools) and swirl it a couple of times in the pan until it picks up a fair amount of product. then, i sweep it over my cheeks and slightly along the bridge of my nose. I have also thought about using this as an overall face powder.. but with all that shimmer, i'm a bit scared to try :( will update you guys if i do try it out and we'll see how that goes :)

UPDATE: thank you to winnie (eleventh0fapril) who has nicely told me that this seems to be closer to Porcelain pink! Sorry for any confusion, i seriously dont know much about the mac msfs, but this is a swatch i found from google images, i will link the picture back to the owner's site.

Final Verdict: Hello Revlon, Goodbye MAC

I think I have satisfied my craving for MSF. This gives me the perfect highlight and blends beautifully. Of course, i cant compare to the MAC product since i have never tried it, (im assuming MAC will be more pigmented, more finely milled etc) but oh w/e,dont pop my bubble! im loving this :) especially looking at it.. hahaha so pretty!

Only bad thing? Limited colours :( Revlon only has this out in 3 shades: Brighten, Suntan Matte and Sunkiss. i really really wished they had a pink toned one, but they dont.. So maybe i will break away from my MAC virginity and purchase Stereo Rose when it comes out in July :D !! What do you girls think? I know some of you own some MSFs! ;)

Latest update - So i totally broke down and purchased both Petticoat and Stereo Rose.. will need to update with swatches of these compared to Revlon's but i totally am in love with MAC MSFs! Petticoat and Stereo Rose both make absolutely gorgeous blushes while Revlon's make a good highlighter :) However, i do have to admit that MAC is definately much more pigmented :) See swatches of both  MAC MSF here!

Possible Chanel Jade Dupe? Find out!

Remember a while back i posted about my new love for green nail polishes in which i reviewed revlon's nail polish in Minted and then thought i found a chanel jade dupe? Well, i finally had time to try out Sephora OPI's Read my Palm! Here's what it looks like....

Swatch with flash - two layers

Swatch without flash
(sorry for the sloppyness... i applied this super fast and ran out of the house for school!)

And compared to Chanel's Jade... picture taken by Karen from makeupandbeautyblog
What do you think?

Final verdict: I really wished it was.. but i cant say its an exact dupe :(

Why? Read my Palm is noticeably darker... and has more blueish undertones than Chanel's jade. Also, (i know you probably cant see from this picture) but Chanel's jade does have a slight shimmer.. while Read my Palm does not. However, i would have to say that this is pretty close.

If you're not a picky polisher, this could be your dupe! I just wouldnt give it a 100%. what do you think? is anyone else out there catching onto this green nail polish hype? i love it! it's so oddly different... that it looks so good! hahaha, let me know if you guys ever find a better dupe! until then.. the search will continue :)
