Monthly Favorites - March 2011

Top products this month!

Aww man, I'm always late at doing these monthly favorite posts! My bad! But here are my most used products for the month of march :)

Foundation Routine:
I've updated my foundation routine for spring! Took out my Revlon Photoready and replaced it with a tinted moisturizer for that more natural dewy look :)

Origins Vitazing Moisturizer
(review to come soon!)
I've been really liking this lately because it gives a nice sheer - medium coverage that barely feels like you have anything on! The ending result after you buff it in nicely, is a dewy natural finish :) Plus, it doubles as a moisturizer and skin booster, so your skin will be glowing from all the antioxidants! lovinggg this! <3

Sigma Miss Taylor Flat Top Retractable Kabuki
I can't say how much I LOVE this brush! It's exactly like my beloved F80 but better because it's bigger, retractable and therefore portable! <3 don't forget to enter my giveaway for a chance to win one for yourself! (look at right sidebar for more information)

Blushes

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Boho Chic
Love love love this! Especially now that I am going back to a more natural "no makeup" look :) I pat this on my cheeks with my fingers and blend. Result? The most natural and gorgeous flush with a tad bit of shimmer! It looks like you are barely wearing any product on your face, but there is a slight muted pink glow with shimmers (if you look closely) :)

Mascara

L'oreal Voluminous in Brown Black
You all know im a HUGE fan of Covergirl's Lashblast Volume, (my HG mascara!) but this month, i've been testing out L'oreal Voluminous and im liking it as well! It definitely gives more volume and a more nautral soft look. Although the lasting power is not as strong as Covergirls (my lashes seem to droop down a bit throughout the day whereas with Covergirl, they stay curled all day long), this is a great alternative for the spring/summer days when you dont want that "overdone-falsie" look :). Im also loving the shade! black may seem too harsh, brown may seem too understated, but mix both and you get a nice balance :)

Lips

Revlon Colorburst in Mauve, NYX Round Lippies in Thalia and Tea Rose

Mauve, Thalia, Tea Rose

NYX Round Lipstick in Thalia and Tea Rose
Spring is finally here! and that means bright pink & mauve lips! <3 I really loveee my NYX lippies because they are creamy, extremely pigmented and inexpensive! They also have a pleasant sweet flowery scent that i dont mind at all :) Thalia (a mauvey shade) and Tea Rose (a bright warm pink) are my absolute fav shades. They add a nice pop of color without being too over-the-top. Loveee!

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Mauve
I loveeed the colorburst lipstick in Soft Nude, but now that its spring, it's time to bring out the colors! I have Carnation (bright pink) saved too for summer, but for this month, i've been using Mauve quite a bit :) Love the shade and texture of this lippie as well :) I think this one is kind of a mix of thalia and tea rose.. its got a pinky mauvey undertone :)

Accessories

Its all about the corals!
I've been mixing and matching my pastel bracelts with gold and corals alot :) It just creates such a simple yet elegant mix! The above bracelets are all bought from forever 21, but on different occassions. I love the bracelet sets from forever 21 because they usualy contain quite a few different textures and designs so you can mix and match your collection!

And thats it for this month! I'll be officially DONE school in about 2 weeks time *yay* and offically graduated in june! *bigger yay!*. afterwards, i will have a LOT more time to blog and make videos :) so stay tuned! I hope you all have a wonderful week! and dont forget to check out both of my giveaways! Information can be found in the right sidebar :)

My Collection Series Pt 2 - Coral Blushes!

Part two of "My Collection" series focuses on my coral blushes.. if you've been a follower since i first started this little blog, you might know that i have a HUGE addiction for blushes! i just think they are the prettiest things ever and they all have such a gorgeous color that i cant seem to get enough of them! :D

middle - ELF Coral
Clockwise starting with the white pan -
Hard Candy Honeymoon, NYX Dare, MAC Stereo Rose, ELF Candid Coral, ELF Blush/Bronzer duo

Here are the swatches for all of the blushes pictured above:

Honeymoon, Coral, Candid Coral, Blush duo, Dare, Stereo Rose

Honeymoon, Coral, Candid Coral, Blush duo, Dare, Stereo Rose

a slightly better picture of Coral

time for each blushes's 5 seconds of fame! first up is ELF's Candid Coral
click here for my review and a better swatch :p
I mustve rambled on and on about this before, but did i tell you how much i love ELF's studio blushes? They are super soft and pigmented and only go for $3 each! Candid coral is lovely warm coral which isnt too over the top. its got a tad slight pink undertone which makes it less orangey and more wearable :) You can also see the slight shimmers in the pan, but when applied, it just shows as a gorgeous glow! so dont worry, no crazy glitter invovled here!

next up, another ELF product! this one's their mineral blush in Coral

(2nd shade up)

Coral is a gorgeous matte light peach. Although when swatched it can lean towards the lighter side, this blush can definitely be built up through layers to give you that nice peachy shade. I would recommend that those with darker skintones pass on this as a blush though.. because it is lighter than you'd expect and it might turn up a tad ashy on darker skins.

Last ELF one for this post, their blush and bronzer duo!

This product has been an ongoing dupe for NARS orgasm and laguna duo.. and im sure you all know that! But for me, i do think the blush here is more peachy than orgasm. At first, i had stuck NARS orgasm in with this post because i thought it leaned slightly toward corals rather than pinks. However, after swatching and comparing the two side by side, i realized that orgasm has more pink undertones than peach!

quick comparison, NARS orgasm on left, ELF blush duo on right

Anyways, back to the ELF blush! this peachy shade is a gorgeous warm peach filled with shimmers. I found that this blush was more pigmented than NARS as well so if you cant afford the cult classic, i'd highly highly recommend this one! Just make sure you know that this leans more on peach then pink :)

Next blush in line... is Hard Candy's Honeymoon!

Im not sure if you've seen my previous review (read here) or the previous snapshots of it applied on my cheeks along with its partner in crime: living doll (see here), but this blush has now become my staple highlighter shade! i loveee the peachy sheen of this blush and although it can be built up to be a gorgeous light peach shade for a blush, i'd much rather use it as a highlight due to its high shimmer factor! Those with pale skintones can definitely pull this off as a blush, something i am highly jealous of!! The only slight downside is that this blush is less pigmented so you do need a couple swipes before you see that gorgeous shine!

and of course, the highly expected cult classic, MAC Stereo Rose!

see initial review and swatches here
This blush is as gorgeous as it looks in pan! Depending on how much veining you get in yours, this blush can vary slightly with some appearing darker than others. I think mine has just the right amount as the product shows up as a nice orangey coral shade that is just right for my skintone :) Like hard candy's honeymoon, this products got a gorgeous sheen/shimmer to it! :) Now, in contrast to honeymoon, you'll have to watch out for a heavy hand! Like all MAC products, the pigmentation on this is insane, so i'd recommend a light hand and just build up to your desiered shade.

how orange is it you may ask? take a look :)

Finally, NYX's dare, a shade i fell in love with for the fall season

You mightve seen my inital review or even the snapshots of this applied on my cheeks (see here), but i am in love with this mix of colors! First off, i love the versatality of thhis blush, i know its hard to really adjust how much of each shade you pick up, but hey, you get an option! I like to mix this all together for a gorgeous light coppery coral-ly shade that is a lighter version of stereo rose! :)

Anyways, thats it for coral blushes! Sorry the lighting isnt the greatest for these pictures.. i've been busy with/at school and usually when i get around to swatching, all that good sunlight's gone :( i still hope you get the idea of what these blushes look like because they are all absolutely gorgeous for the fall/winter season!

worst case, i think i have done previous reviews and swatches for most, if not all, above blushes so go take a look :) have a great day and for those in the snowy areas, drive safe!!

As Requested, NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils EOTD!

Some of my readers have requested to see how the NYX jumbo eye pencils look when applied. Below are several shots of me wearing the bronze shade (french fries) on my outer crease and lower lashline, the shimmery white (cottage cheese) on my inner corners and the gunmetal shade (slate) as a liner. Please note that all i used on the eye (other than mascara) were the 3 NYX jumbo pencils that i reviewed. No other eyeshadow or base were used to show the true colors and effect of these pencils.

note - for some reason, the closed lid pictures came out really blurry so i cant post them :( sorry!

as you can see, the shimmery white (cottage cheese) blends away way too easily. i already tried my best not to blend it out too much, but the result was still the same.. if you have this or were looking into this, i would highly recommend that you use this as a base. layering a shimmery white shadow on top makes a HUGE difference as the jumbo pencil helps bring out the shade more. the gunmetal and bronze however, are quite nice on their own. although i would use these as a base as well, on lazy days.. i wouldnt mind just throwing together this look :)

Overall, i think these pencils did quite well. Heres a trick for limiting creasing - if you use your finger to lightly tap and blend the color after you apply it to your lids, you can actually reduce the amount of creasing you get later on the day! I wore this look for a full day and am glad to report that near the end of the day, although the color faded and smudged slightly, there were no creasing and it still looked pretty good (except that the white had almost faded to nothing) Of course, creasing also depends on how oily and how hooded your lids are so this may not work for everyone :(

i hope this helps! good luck :)

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

- Vacation Note -

I am currently on vacation so the following post is an older post that i wrote up a while back. I have already scheduled a few posts to be automatically posted during the course of my vacation so dont worry, there will still be posts to read! I apologize in advance because i dont think i will be getting any internet connection and therefore will not be able to reply to comments and questions. However, please feel free to continue on commenting and emailing as i will for sure reply to all once i come home or if i ever get internet connection. thank you and enjoy!

P.S. - i am most likely going to start my next giveaway when i come back.. so bookmark Pinkbox Makeup and check back for updates of when it'll start and what you can do to win! :D Im still deciding if i should do one bigger giveaway prize or two smaller ones. let me know which one you think is better in the comments!

- and now.. onto the post! -

I finally picked up these NYX jumbo eye pencils to try out for myself and WOW! they truely deserve all the hype and raves they get from bloggers & youtubers! Of course, i have been searching for Milk for FOREVER. seems like Milk & i just arent meant to be. Everytime i order a haul online or go to rexall (which stocks NYX), Milk is always out of stock. ALWAYS. :( so i've given up for now and have been deciding if i should just get it off ebay even with pricer shipping costs :(... we will see

Anyways, back on track.. i bought 3 NYX jumbo eye pencils in the shades Slate, French Fries and Cottage Cheese. Here are the pictures & swatches of each :D

top to bottom:
slate, french fries, cottage cheese

left to right:

These are unbelievably creamy!!!! the colors are so super pigmented and blend easily. Only thing is, they blend a bit TOO easily haha sometimes i blend too much and the color kind of disappears... but these are definately great to use as a base color! if you havent already, i'd highly recommend for you to test these out! As for myself, i need to go back to Rexall and see if theres any other colors i want! hehe and hopefully, *crossing fingers*, they have Milk!! :D

So let me know, what do you think about these? Which colors are your favourite? I would love to hear some opininos before heading back to the drugstore!

And here's what they look like when applied on my lips:
(this post will only cover Maybelline Pink Please and NYX Peach, I want to do a separate post for all the Wet n' Wild lippies and another post for the Revlon lipgloss.) Enjoy!!

Maybelline Pink Please
a Gorgeous Warm Pink
This is my new favourite everyday pink! When swatched, it may seem a bit on the lighter side, but because i have pigmented lips, this actually turns out to be a gorgeous shade of pink :) Plus, the packaging is very nice and it clicks shut so it wont come loose. Only thing i'd say is the smell is kind of lipstick-y.. but its not overly strong so i can deal with it. :) Love this!

NYX Peach
Shimmery Frosty Red
Peach is not peach coloured. haha it is more of a shimmery berry red. I love the formula of the NYX lippies! They all apply super smooth and creamy and are all very pigmented. Heres a comparison of Peach and Watermelon (see full swatch of watermelon here). As you can see, Watermelon is more of a coppery red with peach undertones while Peach had deep red undertones. Personally, i think they should've switched the names for these two lippies! haha but i love them both :)

left to right: Peach & Watermelon

I hope the swatches help anyone who is looking to buy these in the future! I will be also posting a separate post just for the Wet n' Wild lippies so stay tuned for that :)
